Marie Claire is one of Australia’s most stylish magazines, and it recently named Pinetrees as one of the ‘10 coolest hotspots on the planet’. This is not the Pinetrees of old with mink laminate bench tops, mission brown tiles and orange chenille bedspreads. No. This is the, and I quote, “ideal base in paradise”. It seems our renovations have hit the right spot with Marie Claire. Not that we’re overly swish – you can still walk around with sand between your toes – but we’ve found the right balance between the authentic Lord Howe lodge and the more luxurious lodges around the world that get, perhaps, a bit fussy.
The Marie Claire article reveals the recent filming of the Hollywood B grade movie on location at Neds Beach. For all of its enormous budget, schmoozy producers, serious crew with aviator sunnies, high tech plastic sharks, cars imported from Mexico, Hertz rental trucks, and famous film stars with intimidating body guards, it didn’t do much for Lord Howe except obstruct guests who were trying to have a relaxing Lord Howe holiday. Thanks Hollywood, but next time can you please film your Mexico-based shark attack movie in Mexico.
